Haiti's ousted president, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, warned that the crisis sparked by the resignation of the prime minister Marc Bazin could erupt into a bloody civil war unless democracy were restored quickly, agencies report from Miami.

The White House said it would comply with a federal court order and admit a group of Haitians tested as HIV-positive held in Guantanamo in Cuba into the US.
