Heavy fighting in Grozny

Moscow - Russian forces and Chechen separatists clashed in Grozny during Sunday night after the rebels infiltrated their captured capital. Remarks by a Russian general indicated the heaviest fighting in Grozny since February.

This dealt another blow to an already shaky ceasefire declared just three days ago by President Boris Yeltsin. A curfew was imposed yesterday after rebels launched night attacks with mortar bombs and light weapons. Reuter
