Fighting flares in Burundi
Bujumbura - Skirmishing between Hutu militias and Burundi's Tutsi-dominated army flared in the capital. Residents of the Hutu enclave of Kamenge said fighting had killed many people and that the army destroyed houses with shellfire. A Burundi army representative spoke of sporadic gunfire but said the army was in control. More Hutus fled the city after heavy gunfire overnight. They joined thousands who fled earlier this week to camp in hills overlooking Bujumbura. Fighting erupted on Tuesday, a day after an Organisation of African Unity mission arrived here to press the majority Hutus and minority Tutsis to accept peace after months of clashes. Reuter
