Italy's magistrates 'above politics'
Arow erupted in Italy yesterday over attempts by competing parties to get magistrates to stand for parliament in the coming general elections, Reuter report from Rome. At least two members of the pool of Milan magistrates spearheading Italy's Mani Pulite (Clean Hands) inquiry said they had rebuffed approaches to run on 27 and 28 March.
