Nigeria's Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, accused a 'powerful cabal' of risking the future of the country as the political crisis dragged into a second week, Reuter reports from Nairobi.

Mr Soyinka's statement, published in independent newspapers, called for the immediate release of suspended election results. At the same time, the state media reported calls in some Muslim northern states for the military to delay the handover of power to civilians.
