Khmer Rouge attack town

Up to 500 Khmer Rouge guerrillas attacked the strategic town of Siem Reap in northern Cambodia, pushing civilians ahead of them as human shields, according to UN peace-keepers, Reuter reports from Siem Reap.

The guerrillas pounded the town with rockets, mortars and automatic weapons. Some rebels entered but were pushed out after more than two hours of fighting with some 300 government troops.
