Li 'regrets' Tiananmen
Bonn - China's Prime Minister, Li Peng, said he did not want to order the bloody 1989 crackdown on pro-democracy activists at Peking's Tiananmen Square but contended the only other option was nationwide chaos.
In an interview with German television, Mr Li also sarcastically offered the Chinese leadership to any Western politician who thinks he can do a better job. 'If some Western politician claims he is in a position to use the normal Western methods to feed and clothe 1.2 billion Chinese, we would be happily prepared to elect him president of China,' he said.
