Iranian reformers face anti-Islamic charges

Iranian writers and activists who took part in a conference in Berlin are to be prosecuted for harming Iran's Islamic image.

The conference, called "Post-elections Iran", provoked outrage in conservative circles earlier this week after state-run television broadcast footage of an Iranian woman dancing and other participants chanting slogans against Iran.

The country's state-controlled radio station said yesterday: "The Tehran Justice Administration has filed a case with the Revolutionary Court against a number of participants for delivering speeches against the sacred Islamic system and religious values and for portraying a distorted picture of the nation's religious beliefs."

The radio did not name the reformists and it was not immediately known if they had received the summonses.
