Minister quits
PARIS - The Communications Minister, Alain Carignon, resigned to aid his defence against a corruption investigation, becoming the first member of Edouard Balladur's government to quit in a growing climate of scandal. After formal charges on allegations of bribe-taking, he will gain access to police files for his defence. (AP)
