Ahuge oil slick in the Gulf of Oman began to reap a grim toll on local fishing and tourism along 18 miles of coastline yesterday as salvage teams battled to prevent more oil washing ashore in the United Arab Emirates, AFP reports from Fujairah. The Panama-registered supertanker Seki was laden with 270,000 tons of Iranian crude when it collided on Wednesday with the UAE tanker Baynuna off Fujairah.
