Old foes do a deal
China and Taiwan, easing four decades of Cold War confrontation, agreed to set up a formal channel for negotiations on economic and social issues, Reuter reports from Singapore. The deal was announced on the first of two days of talks in Singapore, the highest-level contact between the two old adversaries since the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949.
