JOHANNESBURG (Reuter) - The Mozambican rebel leader, Afonso Dhlakama, was on his way to Rome yesterday but it was not clear whether he would sign a ceasefire agreement on schedule today, a South African official said.

Mr Dhlakama is due to sign a ceasefire with President Joaquim Chissano to end Mozambique's 16-year civil war. On Tuesday he sent a letter to the mediators raising two points of contention, relating to the confinement of troops on both sides to their barracks, and to the control over areas that his movement occupied in Mozambique following a ceasefire.
