The ice-star Tonya Harding was attacked by a man as she walked through a park but she fought him off and escaped after setting off a personal alarm, Reuter reports from Beaverton, Oregon. Police said the park was in a normally safe area of the Portland suburb of Beaverton and they believed that Harding was singled out for attack rather than being a random victim.

Harding, being investigated over allegations she took part in a plot to assault rival Nancy Kerrigan, suffered scrapes, bruises and a sprained wrist in the attack shortly before midnight. The assault brought on a severe attack of asthma.
