Police launch big Cairo sweep
Police arrested more than 500 people in Cairo in their hunt for militants who tried to kill Egypt's Information Minister, Safwat el-Sherif, Reuter reports from Cairo.
Security sources said yesterday that police erected checkpoints and raided houses in their sweep through five slum areas which are strongholds for Muslim militants seeking to overthrow the government and turn Egypt into a purist Islamic state.
