Obama Bin Osama Bin Laden Barrack, why don't you start with your own nuclear weapons?

How hypocritical, the country with most nuclear weapons in the world telling us again to get rid of them?!

Listen to what he said. Not hearing what YOU want him to say. HE SAID THAT US AND RUSSIA MUST BEGIN TO REDUCE THEIR NUCLEAR WEAPONRY AND THAT THEY'VE OPENED SUCH DISCUSSIONS YESTERDAY. OMG your ability to misinterpret is staggering.

Who are you Americas to tell the world to reduce the nuclear weapons? If you can't finish your enemy militarily you resort to deplomacy, alliance & hyprociy to do so.

You can't stop Iran militarily from acquiring NW so you are resorting new alliance with Russia. You are going down & to hell you go

@chadi_salim: firstly, who is this 'you' you're referring to. This is a British newspaper, with a largely British readership. You're surely not under the impression Obama has nothing better to do than read the comments board of the Independent, are you?

Secondly, Obama is not telling the rest of the world to get rid of their weapons, but stating the rather obvious fact that mutual disarmament would be the most productive way forward.

Thirdly, the rest of your post is incoherent nonsense. The only logical inference I can make from your ranting is that you actually seem to be keen on a nuclear exchange. Well, no matter how much I might disagree with America's foreign policy over the years, I'll take that over lunatics like you any time.

The voters of my country (USA) made a wise choice in November. I only hope that what we revisit and restart in the next few months and years will be continued by future administrations. The time is now for confronting the inequalities and thoughtlessness of our world. For a sustainable Earth future much ground work and international cooperation needs to practiced now. As the world's human population grows we'll have tough choices that will only be made easier with an international framework of cooperation. We're all in this together.

The once impregnable fortress of America is crumbling, owing to self-dstructive polices adopted by the Bush Administration. The former adminstration has brought more destruction & misery to the US than terrorists did. And to be honest with you the US foolish adventures in Iraq, Afghanstan & its unlimited support for Israel is backfiring & will prove the last nail in the US's hegmony coffin in the world.

It gives me hope that not all americans are like Bush & Rise & people with your visions should take the lead in placing the US back on the world map as a great, peaceful & supporter & upholder of human rights & justice.

Based on what I saw from abuse in Guantanmo, Iraqi prisoners & Gaza I think that America image was tarnished & in the mud & if you intend to reverse this situation then you have a very hard work ahead of you & you must start asap.

Oh OK, go smoke another dubee and sing kumbaya. Wake the F.....up. We have a community organizer running the USA. A guy who can't stand criticism and if you disagree he sends his hit squads after you ie: ACORN, NOW and the rest of left wing scumbags. Even members of his own party will get attacked if they disagree. Chicago politics. Maybe Blago will spill the beans now that he's been indicted. You blame America for all the worlds problems? Your the problem..
Damn, we're skint!

"We're skint and about to lose our position as the number 1 power in the world. With the loss of that status comes a fear: that our successor may adopt the same bullyboy tactics that we have used for the past century and start pushing us around. We cannot afford to maintain our arsenal, therefore it is in our interest that everyone disarms now."

Don't get me wrong, nuke disarmament is a good thing whatever the motivation, but taking into consideration the history of the US's actions, I'm watching it with a cynical eye. I simply do not believe that the entire nation changes with one man, I have a pretty long memory and America has run roughshod over the planet for decades with zero consequences Under Bush it was like some big, retarded and malevolent bully in the playground, beating everyone up and stealing their lunch. Now, in the distance, it can see that a bigger guy has just been born and it's worried and saying, "You know, I don't think guns are such a great idea".

I cannot just forget America's recent history, see Obama's smile and think everything is alright again. The US, certainly under the Bush family, has made a lot of enemies throughout the world.

I hope I am wrong. I hope that this truly is an international turning point for all the right reasons.

It is early days yet, with so many confusing messages flying around.
In one of Mr Obama speeches, he told the American public,America will Lead the World, in what way?
After the WWII, the USA were shouting out "We are policing the World", by chemical warfare, killing innocent people and children, odd way in policing?
One live's in hope of removing the American control in NATO, and return to a European Military Armed Forces.

Does he include Israel in the equation? Oh, they don't actually have any, do they?

They wouldn't have to disarm because they are surrounded by such nasty neighbours and they are the only democracy in the region and are playing a very important role in keeping those scary Muslims at bay!

...when you are a politician. The really nice part about it is that you can throw the biggest amount of manure around without really being held accountable, other than by an electorate that has had so much manure thrown at it they dont know what to believe. A world without nuclear weapons from the country with the most and the most to lose...how ironic, and how close to the Saddam Hussein toaster, that dangerous element on WMD that was found by the US Army (really, you can burn your finers with it if you are not careful)

As an American in NY, I am proud to see the Obamas representing this large, often obnoxious nation with grace and poise. Novel concept after years of cowoy politics.

Reading the comments below, I am reminded that there are just as many ignorant, naysaying Brits as there are ugly Americans. We do have a "special relationship" after all.

p.s. Michelle is one hot mama...... who dared to touch your Queen.

Damn this guy is interesting, we wondered this morning if other so called world leaders are intimidated by Obama, especially since he told that GM guy to get his P45. If America says that all economies are linked, then those that do not follow his [so far very credible lead] could be in for a polite nudge towards the door. For the moment thought this is ol Bush baiter is with him.
For the good of mankind, or simply to rebalance power?

If i were an optimist, i would be praising Obama for attempting to eliminate these horrendous weapons. This will not be an easy task to fulfill.

If i were a pessimist, i would see this as the US attempting to remove, worldwide, the only means many nations have to draw level to the US in militaristic terms. Essentially rebalancing power, establishing the US firmly back on top.

Only time will tell about his true intentions.

You cannot have a world without nuclear weapons. The ones that exist now can be dismantled but you cannot prevent a rogue nation or terrorist group creating their own. So you will have the situation where the democracies have no nuclear defence and their enemies will have the ability to destroy them unhindered.

I think this is a great idea but start with all the countries that threatened to use them in preemptive strikes and refuse to sign nonproliferation treaties like Israel!

They've refused to acknowledge they even have them let alone participate in any antinuclear weapon reduction.

I forgot israel's the U.S. Protected terrorist state that refuses to abide by international law or humanitarian rights, the state that created the largest concentration camp the world has ever seen. By forcing Palestinians off of their land and bulldozing their homes and their farms.

A country that behaves like this that owns nuclear weapons is a threat to the world and peace to the Middle East. Shouldn't countries like this be a priority along with Pakistan and India?

Let's take their nuclear weapons away and I bet they stop killing women and children and start behaving in a civilized manner if only left with conventional forces to protect their failed state.

I think the only nuclear disarmament he's talking about includes every country but the United States, and its terrorist Allies.

USA and Israel are one stat.
tricking Iran,by saying all people are equal.some people are more equal than others.
Disarming and dismembering will continue as in Iraq but using Carrot this this.and government falling apart.

dived and role is golden role.
IPAC and USA will plan it though money carrot .
Nate-yahoo says I will give economical freedom to Palestine not political freedom and stat of Palestine.
this is the relation between Israel and USA.

The world should define the deference between terrorist and the freedom fighter .terrorist and be one person, group of people,or stats.

they should apply the same scale on every one,at same time,to stop all nuclear power in all country.
No one is immune.
No one is equal than other.
USA was the first to use it in Japan,Depleted Uranium in Iraq,Israel used in Gaza and west bank.Obama has the evidence.
so they should banded first.before asking the other who did not used against anyone.
