Several US Supreme Court justices expressed doubts yesterday about the wisdom of granting terminally ill people a constitutional right to doctor- assisted suicide.

"You're asking us in effect to declare unconstitutional the laws of 50 states," Justice Anthony M Kennedy told a lawyer for doctors who challenged Washington state's ban on assisted suicide. AP - Washington
