Somalia's faction leader Mohamed Farah Aideed has lost control of his main airport and may have been wounded in heavy clan fighting in the capital.

The loss of Ballidogle airport was a major reverse for the self-declared president, who has been thrown on to the defensive in the past four months of militia battles in shattered Mogadishu. There was no independent confirmation that General Aideed was wounded in fighting on Thursday. But rumours that he had been shot in the back or shoulder were rife in Mogadishu and among Somali exiles. Reuter - Nairobi
