A French court placed a war-time collaborator, Paul Touvier, 78, under judicial supervision pending trial for crimes against humanity, but rejected an application to remand him in custody, Reuter reports from Versailles.

The former militia chief, facing trial over the execution of seven Jewish prisoners in Lyons during the Second World War, will have to report to the authorities every 15 days.
