Truce holds in Rwanda
NAIROBI (Reuter) - A ceasefire declared by rebels to end three weeks of slaughter in Rwanda held except for sporadic firing in the capital, Kigali.
UN officials said more than 330,000 people had fled to neighbouring countries to escape the tribal bloodbath which has killed an estimated 100,000 people.
The officials reported only small-arms fire in a Kigali area held by Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) rebels. They said only sporadic exchanges marred the first 11 hours of a unilateral RPF ceasefire.
