US 'expulsion'
The chairman of the Finance and Economic Committee of the Iranian parliament, who had travelled to Washington for meetings at the World Bank and IMF, was detained on arrival, sent to jail and then deported, according to the official Iranian news agency, writes Safa Haeri. An informed source said Hojatoleslam Hussein Shahrudi had been identified by the CIA and FBI as one of the leaders of the students who occupied the US embassy in Tehran in November 1979.
