Hundreds of thousands of Algerians marched from Martyrs' Square in the capital yesterday in a rejection of violence blamed on Muslim fundamentalists, Reuter reports from Algiers. The ululations of women mixed with chants of 'Down with terrorism' as young and old streamed through the streets. Other similar marches were being held nationwide, called by politicians, trade unionists, employers, doctors and women's groups.
