CAPE TOWN (Reuter) - The South African government assured the African National Congress (ANC) yesterday it would make an urgent investigation into arms smuggling by the Inkatha Freedom Party, the ANC's main rival in township fighting. An ANC official said the organisation had asked the government for an undertaking to be as tough on Inkatha as it was on the ANC when three ANC members were caught smuggling arms on 1 February. At the weekend, six Inkatha members were arrested with an arms cache.
