Guy Adams: Pageant no place to play right-wing card

LA Notebook

If you want proof of the dangers inherent in mixing beauty with politics, look at the controversy that has suddenly enveloped Carrie Prejean, California's pneumatic representative in Sunday night's Miss USA contest. Asked during the event's "Q&A" session to volunteer an opinion on gay marriage, Miss Prejean, 21, announced, with a swish of bottle-blonde hair, that: "In my country, in my family, I do believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman."

Let us cast aside, for the time being, the rights or wrongs of this particular worldview. Let us instead make a simple observation: Prejean's decision to voice that world view, so very unequivocally, at a crucial stage in the Miss World contest represented an appalling tactical call.

Why? Well for one thing, it badly misread her studio audience. As any fool knows, the punters at any good beauty pageant tend to be as "camp" as your average row of tents. This lot gave her answer the proverbial bird. For another, it offended the liberal sensibilities of Miss World judges. Having been hot favourite for the Miss USA title, Prejean, left, was demoted to the runner-up spot behind Miss North Carolina.

Finally, and most unfortunately of all, it outraged the man who asked the question. He was Perez Hilton, the outspokenly gay celebrity blogger, who launched an energetic bid to trash her reputation. Their ensuing war of words has so far jollified almost every paper in the land, with Hilton hitting the Today programme, CBS and Larry King's chat show, while Prejean has turned up on E!, Access Hollywood and Fox News. Prejean couches her opposition to gay marriage in purely religious terms. This has seen her feted as a hero by the conservative movement, and pegged as a crucial future ally in the gathering storm over perhaps the most divisive social issue facing America.

Ironically, it also puts her in a similar position (politically, at least) to Dayana Mendoza, the Miss Universe winner, who this month blogged about her visit to Cuba's Guantanamo Bay, saying George Bush's favourite waterboarding venue was "calm and beautiful".

Miley twitters in support

Mr Hilton's advocacy of gay rights may not win hearts and minds in Middle America, but it counts for a lot in Hollywood. His feud this week has prompted Miley Cyrus to "come out" in support of same-sex unions, via the medium of her Twitter feed. Given Cyrus's reliance on the "tween" market, this represents a bold move. I hope her paymasters at Disney approved it.

Traditional marriage is right wing?

Left wing grandstanding has no place at a beauty contest for that is precisely what the question was. Mr. "Hilton" had no interest in the answer. A litmus test for beauty contestants? Buy into homosexual marriage or no tiara? It is incredible to me that Mr. Adams cares so little for our freedoms to defend this twit.

The choice is the following: Side with a charming and very pretty young woman or side with the obnoxious twit who grandstands and first calls her the "B" word, then retracts it, then retracts the retraction to call her the "C" word. Mr. Adams and some Hollywood degenerates might side with the vulgar Mr. "Hilton." But America is offended.
Prejeans answer was wrong?

I think she was set up. Someone knew her religious beliefs and set her up. Why wasn't she asked some other inane question like other contestants? And if her answer is "WRONG" then why wasn't Obama bashed by this Gay Rights blogger and the MISS USA organization when he said practically the same thing????

In my opinion, Miss Prejean is the only REAL star in this whole thing. People like Miley Cyrus, who are supposedly Christians, who come out in support of same-sex marriage are one of two things:

(1) they are not really Christian at all

(2) they are Christian, but are incredibly shallow spiritually. They have no real concept of who God is. They say that "God is love" and that "judging is wrong". This immediately betrays the fact that they have no real, meaningful relationship with God at all, and they will be held accountable for it at the Day of Judgement.

For Miley Cyrus, especially, who purports to be a Christian, to make the inane statements she did is what "gives Christians a bad rap" (in her words) - not in the eyes of society, which applauds her politically correct and career-enhancing position, but in the eyes of God. For her to utter the mindless babble she did in supporting same-sex marriage shows that she is more concerned about offending the Hollywood/Disney elite than she is about offending the God that redeemed her and whom she is supposed to honor and serve.

I guess none of this should surprise anyone since a biblically-based (true) answer by her would have put her lucrative relationship with openly gay-friendly Disney in jeopardy. It apparently is of no consequence to her that her "position" might put her relationship with God in jeopardy. It's sad that she seems to represent that individual Jesus spoke about in Matthew 13:22 -

"The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful."

Unfortunately, many people in our country who profess to be Christians fall into this category. We must make God sick to His stomach.

Christ never said there was anything wrong with gays!!
2) God never said there was anything wrong with gays(Check your 10 commandments)

The word Bigot seems to get thrown at anyone who disagrees with the homosexuals right now.. lets see what Websters defines it as: "a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices ; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance".
I think that when "Carrie called Perez the B-word on her site" or said she actually meant the "C" word and everyone (including hollywood) launched out at him for expressing his "Opinion" as she asked. even though the majority of polls emails and calls to news agency's and Donald Trump (owner of Miss USA) were overwhelmingly in his favor.... sounds like BIGOTRY to me........ Ooppps my Bad I think I had the names Switched.. it was Perez OMG.. he's a Homosexual, he's not a Bigot He Can't be, can he??
OMG what is this world coming too.. next thing you know someone will want to invalidate our vote (Prop 8) and challenge it in court in California because they disagree.. but that would be Discrimination and Bigotry
whats a bigot? hmm...

Obviously, Guy Adams here is ignorant and bias.

1. Ms. CA did not push her idea down to your empty head. She just answered a loaded question from a idiot gay activist who want to play left-wing political correctness card. And that question explicitly require her to show her OWN OPINION and she said "I believe". You are too foolish to see that, eh?

2. Ms. CA clearly knew her audience. Did you narrow-mind hear the huge applause and cheers after she answered the question? Did you know she just represent a state whose majority residents just support her idea of marriage? You are too foolish to see that, eh?

3. Ms. CA also knew her judges, a malicious gay who just wanted to use that pageant platform to put his silly gay agenda. She knew that she would have won if she had lied to appease those silly judges. Did she lose? Absolutely NO. That crown is worthless for her belief, honesty and integrity. And definitely honesty is not your option had you been in the same situation.
