Letter: The Turner needs more than slick quotations in rice

From MR PETER HARRISON

Sir: Gordon Burn cannot have it both ways. The achievement of Duchamp's 'ready-mades' was to point out that anything can be considered aesthetically: what is required is a perceptual shift.

If the Turner Prize entrants were indeed his heirs, they would not even begin to consider aligning themselves with such a trite continuation of the 19th-century salon.

Yours sincerely,

PETER HARRISON
