DAVID WHEELER, editor of the gardening quarterly, Hortus, is reviving the practice of the New Year's Day flower count. There are no prizes, but he would like people to send in a list of all the flowers open in their garden on New Year's Day. Divide the list into three sections, to cover bulbs, perennials and shrubs or trees. Send it, together with the approximate size of your garden (small gardens will not be at a disadvantage) to Hortus, Bryan's Ground, Stapleton, Herefordshire LD8 2LP.
