Anyone about to embark on the self-build voyage, or on a journey of complete renovation, may like to stop off at the Home Building and Renovating Show at the NEC in Birmingham. This brings you the latest in the nuts and bolts of homes, rather than the frills. Exhibitors include window, bathroom and heating companies as well as builders and architects involved in the self-build movement. The show takes place from 9-12 March. For tickets call 081-773 1313.

A property seminar is being held on Wednesday 1 March in aid of WellBeing, the charity better known as Birthright, one of the Princess of Wales's favoured causes. The seminar is sponsored by the lawyers, Lee and Pembertons, and Russell Simpson estate agents. On the agenda are the auctioning of valuables at country house sales and the care of antiques, as well as advice about buying and selling your house. The seminar is at the Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, central London. Tickets cost £50 including lunch and are available from Wellbeing on 071-262 5337.

Families moving out of the capital can now house-hunt without trekking around the countryside. At 27 Berkeley Square, London W1 (071-449 2727), there is a showroom for properties being sold by 17 independent estate agents in the Home Counties and East Anglia. The average price paid by their buyers last year was £220,000.

In my column last week about Ecological Development, builders of environmentally friendly homes, I omitted their phone number. It is: 071-837 6308
