Buyers postponed their search for homes during the Olympic Games, according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
The numbers viewing properties dipped in August, with more surveyors reporting falling demand, compared with July.
Average house prices edged lower during the month with London the only region to report higher prices.
