Arch Angel's disqualification from first place in the last Jackpot race at Southwell yesterday cost one punter a share of the biggest pool for nearly a year.

The Tote's spokesman, Geoffrey Webster, said: "Coming to the last race there was pounds 1.60 going on to the favourite, People Direct, and 10p on Mutee and Arch Angel. If Arch Angel had not been disqualified, a Tote Direct betting-shop customer would have collected pounds 14,069.

"As it is, pounds 198,162 is carried over to Carlisle. This is the biggest pool since it built up during last year's Cheltenham Festival and ended up at pounds 922,827 at Exeter on 23 March."
