Baker-Finch's big blunder

Ian Baker-Finch had the worst start of all the players at the Open - an incredible hooked drive at the first.

The Australian, the 1991 champion, saw his ball fly right across the neighbouring 18th fairway and career out of bounds more than 100 yards left.

Baker-Finch, who has not made a cut all season, reloaded in embarrassment and eventually started his round of 77 with a six.

His playing partner, Wolverhampton's Peter Baker, who shot a two-under- par 70, said: "Ian just seemed to lose balance in his swing. He sort of slipped and it must have been a terrible moment for him."
