A three-day ban imposed on Pat Eddery yesterday will force the former champion jockey to miss next Sunday's 1,000 Guineas, a race he has never won.

Eddery had being expecting to choose between two rides in the fillies' Classic - one of them the French contender, Macoumba. A ban forced him out of the 2,000 Guineas last year and he is set to miss Saturday's race again because he has been unable to secure a mount.

Yesterday's suspension was for careless riding on Sandown winner Brave Edge. It runs from 7 May to 9 May, ruling him out of the first Sunday card with betting, a busy holiday Monday and the first day of Chester.

Spectrum became a best-priced 16-1 for the Derby after taking the Tudor Conditions Stakes at Sandown. Peter Chapple-Hyam's challenger showed good acceleration in the straight to beat Sanoosea.
