Paul Blockley, whose training licence has been withdrawn because he has disappeared from the Malton stables where he was based, has surfaced in Belgium. Disqualified because he had become uncontactable at the address at which he was licensed to train, Blockley made contact with the Jockey Club yesterday.

Down to a handful of horses in Malton after the death of his leading owner last year, he has applied to the Belgian racing authorities for a training licence with the ambition of setting up a yard in Sterrebeek.

A spokesman for the Belgian Jockey Club said: "Paul Blockley has applied for a licence. The hearing is tomorrow and we hope that we will hear from the English Jockey Club to confirm his credentials."
