Switzerland swept the top three places in the world four-man championship in St Moritz yesterday but were then disqualified for using illegal equipment.

The Swiss immediately filed a protest which will be considered by the International Bobsleigh Federation within three weeks.

Until then the order of finish will remain unchanged but if the disqualification is upheld the Britain I team of Sean Olsson, Dean Ward, Courtney Rumbolt and Lenny Paul will move up from seventh place to fourth.

Reto Goetschi, who led Switzerland to victory in the two-man event last Sunday, continued to benefit from home-track advantage by posting the fastest time in the four-man as well.

But, three hours after the Swiss had been awarded their medals, they were informed that during scrutineering all three sleds were found to have illegal axles.
