Second Division Bournemouth have clinched a three-year deal worth pounds 75,000 with sports giant Patrick and a pounds 30,000 shirt contract with Rover MG dealers Sewards.

Derek Mountfield is staying at Walsall as player-coach to manager Jan Sorensen, calling off his switch to the Vauxhall Conference club Hereford. Mountfield's decision follows Kevin Wilson's move from Walsall to become assistant manager at Northampton.

Portugal's football federation has banned Sporting Lisbon's Ricardo Sa Pinto for assaulting Artur Jorge, the national squad coach, throwing into doubt a $4m (pounds 2.38m) move to Spain's Real Sociedad. Portuguese media reported yesterday that the temperamental striker had been barred for 12 months but federation officials would only confirm a suspension without spelling out the length of the ban.
