Julio Cesar Chavez, the former three-time world champion, has withdrawn from his fight against Mickey Ward scheduled for Friday in Reno, Nevada, after sustaining a hand injury.

Nicky Piper can look forward to another attempt on a world title after stopping Bruce Scott in the seventh round of their Commonwealth light heavyweight title fight in Tylorstown, Rhondda, on Saturday. He could face a World Boxing Organisation title fight with the German holder, Dariusz Michalczewski, or his next challenger Eddy Smulders, of the Netherlands.
