Oscar de la Hoya displayed some impressive punching power on Saturday in knocking out David Kamau, of Kenya, in the second round to retain his World Boxing Council welterweight title in San Antonio, Texas.

De la Hoya knocked down Kamau early in the second round and put him down again with six seconds left to improve his perfect record to 25-0, while handing the challenger only his second loss in 31 professional fights.

The method of victory should help silence critics who claim the American lacks punching power. Unlike in his previous bout, when he had to chase Pernell Whitaker, he found Kamau willing to trade punches - which turned out to be a bad error.
