Boxing: McMillan to fight for free in comeback

Colin McMillan, who earned pounds 200,000 from his world title reign, is happy to fight for nothing to get his career back in shape.

McMillan, the former World Organisation featherweight champion, takes on Justin Murphy, a street sweeper from Brighton, at the Broadway Theatre, Barking, next Tuesday and neither will be taking any money from the promotion. Any profits will go to the King George Hospital in Essex and the Professional Boxers' Association, of which McMillan is secretary.

McMillan, who lost his WBO title on a bizarre dislocated shoulder injury to Colombia's Ruben Palacio in 1992, has found all the doors back to the top locked but is now looking to reopen them.

n The British Board of Control is being challenged by angry licence holders, headed by Pat Cowdell, the former British and European champion. They want the Board to pay for MRI brain scans for boxers and want the Board to provide cash support for shows in small halls.
