Businesses call for more nuclear sites

Two-thirds of managing directors surveyed by the British Nuclear Forum said they believed more nuclear power stations should be built. A parallel survey of Tory MPs found 85 per cent in favour, said the forum, which published the results ahead of a new effort by Nuclear Electric this week to persuade the Government to allow early privatisation of the industry.

Barlow Clowes deal

Midland Bank, Touche Ross and others being sued by the Government for their roles in the Barlow Clowes affair are said to be negotiating an out-of-court settlement of up to pounds 45m.

Iran oil return

An oil group owned by the wealthy Hinduja brothers, Gulf Oil Trading Company, has become the first foreign oil company to be allowed back into Iran. The brothers, four Indian businessmen with substantial British interests, also said yesterday they had won a Swiss banking licence for their Geneva company, Amas SA.
