Cannock yesterday increased their lead at the top of the National League First Division with a 3-2 win at Hounslow as Southgate, in second place overnight, could only draw at home to East Grinstead and slip to fourth place.
Cannock, with two goals from Bobby Crutchley, twice came from behind at Hounslow. And when Crutchley was bundled over by Mike Williamson, Paul Edwards converted the penalty with six minutes remaining to win.
Teddington, the defending champions, won 2-1 at home to Havant to at last take themselves clear of the relegation zone thanks to two goals from Phil McGuire. Havant had taken a fourth-minute lead with a goal from Calum Giles back after a hernia operation.
The day's only hat-trick came from Don Williams in Guildford's 7-2 win against Indian Gymkhana.
In Dublin England's women, after their 2-1 victory against Ireland on Saturday, yesterday drew 1-1 to take the Sharwood Centenary Trophy. Ireland took the lead through Sarah Kelleher, in the 17th minute with Canterbury's Melanie Clewlow equalising a minute after the interval.
