Cricket: Australians fined again
SHANE WARNE and Merv Hughes, who were each fined 1,000 Rand ( pounds 193) by the match referee, Donald Carr, for 'sledging' during the first Test against South Africa which finished in Johannesburg on Tuesday, have been fined an additional Adollars 4,000 ( pounds 2,000) each by the Australian Cricket Board.
The chairman of the ACB, Alan Crompton, said that their action had been 'unacceptable, detrimental to the interests of Australian cricket and provided a totally inappropriate role model for young players. . . (They) have brought Australian cricket into disrepute.'
