Cricket: Crawley caps victory march

JOHN CRAWLEY had something to celebrate yesterday, even if he was left out of England's squad for Trent Bridge. He was awarded his Lancashire cap and then scored a brilliant 60 against Somerset as Lancashire marched to a formidable 207 for 9 in a Sunday League game reduced to 31 overs by rain.

Crawley reached 50 off 49 balls with a huge six and struck another next ball before falling to Andrew Payne, who finished with a Sunday-best 4 for 37. But it was a joyless day for Somerset as they slipped to a 15-run defeat.

Warwickshire, meanwhile, survived the loss of Brian Lara to a first-ball duck and moved into second place behind Surrey in the table with a three-wicket win over the bottom-placed Middlesex.
