WITH new arrivals Dean Jones and Tony Dodemaide making an immediate impact, Australia yesterday made partial amends for their Test defeat at Auckland by demolishing New Zealand in the first one-day international in Dunedin.

Jones, seeking to reclaim his place in Australia's Ashes party, struck 52 to help the chastened tourists to 258 for 4 in their allotted 50 overs, whereupon Dodemaide, the man of the match, dispatched Rod Latham with his first delivery then removed Martin Crowe to leave the hosts tottering on 10 for 3, a position from which they never recovered as three wickets for off-spinner Tim May completed their descent to 129 all out.

In Faridabad, a stomach complaint halted Kapil Dev's run of 203 consecutive one-day internationals but his compatriots experienced rather less discomfort as India beat Zimbabwe by 67 runs in the first instalment of a three-match series.
