PRAVEEN AMRE and Vijay Yadav produced a crucial 46-run sixth-wicket partnership to lead India to an easy five-wicket victory in the seventh one-day international against South Africa.

Despite the loss, South Africa won the series 5-2 on India's first visit to the republic.

Amre scored 84 not out, his highest total in international limited-overs cricket, and Yadav came on to score 32 off only 22 balls and push India past the South African target of 203 for 8 with 16 balls to spare for the loss of five wickets.

South Africa's captain, Kepler Wessels, again opened strongly, scoring 57, while Hansie Cronje scored 55 off 56 balls for the hosts.

India's tour concludes with two more Tests. Two earlier Tests, the first between the two countries, fell victim to the weather and ended in draws.

Allan Border, captain of Australia, made a disappointing return from injury for Queensland on the opening day of the four-day match against Pakistan in Brisbane yesterday.

The 37-year-old left-hander, who came in to bat with the state side seemingly well set on 153 for 3, had made only 22 when he was caught by Aamir Sohail off Shahid Saeed. Queensland were all out for 260 and Pakistan survived 10 overs in fading light to be 37 without loss at the close.
