Sri Lanka had Zimbabwe struggling to save the follow-on by the close of the second day of the first Test in Colombo yesterday.

After Sri Lanka were dismissed before lunch for 349, their left-arm fast bowler Chaminda Vaas took three Zimbabwe wickets for 31 in an 11-over spell as the visitors slipped to 105 for 6.

The only resistance came from Guy Whittall and Craig Wishart, who put together a fifth-wicket stand of 58 before Jayantha Silva trapped Whittall lbw for 39. Wishart was unbeaten on 31 at the close.

Earlier, Sri Lanka added 59 to their overnight score of 290 for 7, with Kumara Dharmasena and Vaas putting on 74 for the eighth wicket before leg-spinner Paul Strang bowled Vaas for 34.
