THE last-wicket pair, Simon Myles and Keith Arnold, blocked four overs to earn the Minor Counties a draw against the South Africans at Torquay yesterday.

The Minor Counties were set 270 to win in 52 overs when Kepler Wessels, the South African captain, declared shortly after lunch.

They made a brisk start, reaching 61 in 21 overs, before things started to go wrong. Russell Evans was run out for 30, then Steve Dean was caught in the deep. Tim Shaw and Pat Symcox, aided by three run outs, then worked their way through the middle order.
