West Indies 259-4; Pakistan 261-3. Pakistan win by seven wickets

WITH a performance typical of their unpredictability, Pakistan won a match they had done everything to lose yesterday to keep their interest alive in the five- match one-day international series against the West Indies.

Fielding with the discipline and commitment of a Sunday afternoon team they allowed the West Indies to amass 259 for 4 in only 45 of their allotted 50 overs. That left them to score 5.77 runs per over to reverse their recent losing trend against the West Indies.

In spite of the ideal batting conditions they contrived to lose their way with two needless run-outs that left them 130 for 3. Ramiz found himself in the same crease as Inzamam-Ul-Haq and was run out for 43, while Basit Ali went attempting to steal a second run on Brian Lara's return from third man.

Pakistan seemed to be drifting out of contention but Asif Mujtaba gathered runs with comfort, and as Inzamam found his range unlikely victory became probable.

Even though the West Indies remained sharp in the field their bowlers lacked spark and the Pakistanis completed their victory with 11 balls in hand.
