Australia 251 West Indies 167-4: West Indies consolidate after Lee takes early wickets

Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo guided West Indies to 167 for four at tea after dismissing Australia for 251 on the second day of the third Test here in Barbados yesterday.

At the interval Chanderpaul, who is averaging over 160 in the series, was on 47 and Bravo had scored 29.

West Indies cleaned up Australia's tail swiftly but then lost their top order and were forced to consolidate.

After adding just 25 to their overnight226, the Australians bounced back with the wickets of Ramnaresh Sarwan (20) and captain Chris Gayle (14), along with opener Sewnarine Chattergoon (20) before lunch.

Brett Lee claimed both openers, luring Chattergoon into a drive outside off stump, which he nicked to Brad Haddin, and then getting the prize wicket of Gayle on his return from injury. The left-hander bludgeoned three fours but then heaved a poor shot to mid-off where Beau Casson made a fine catch.

West Indies rattled on at an impressive rate with Sarwan and Xavier Marshall taking the hosts to 50 within 10 overs, then Mike Hussey produced a diving catch to dismiss Sarwan for 20 off Stuart Clark. After the interval, Marshall continued to a lively 39 before he was caught by Casson off Andrew Symonds.

Earlier, Fidel Edwards trapped Casson (10) lbw and Jerome Taylor then dismissed Mitchell Johnson for a duck with a rising delivery that the Australian edged to Sulieman Benn at gully. Edwards finished off Australia when he clean bowled Clark .
