Australia 479-7 dec West Indies 125-3: MacGill calls time on Test career but Warne still not tempted

The Australia leg-spinner Stuart MacGill has is to retire from international cricket at the end of the second Test against West Indies here.

The 37-year-old made his Test debut against South Africa 10 years ago and has since taken 207 wickets at an average of 28.28.

"Unfortunately now my time is up," MacGill said. "I am incredibly lucky that as well as providing me with amazing opportunities off the field, my job allows me to test myself in one of Australia's most highly scrutinised sporting environments."

Any suggestion that MacGill's exit might lead to a comeback for Shane Warne, who has led the Rajasthan Royals to the Indian Premier League title as player-coach, appeared to be scotched when Warne said: "I am very happy with retirement. I am happy playing the IPL for six weeks of the year which gives me about 18 months to spend with my kids and other interests.

"Business off the field is also going fantastic and life is pretty good at the moment," he added.

West Indies took their first innings total to 255 for four in reply to Australia’s 479 for seven declared on a rain-shortened third day of the second Test yesterday here in Antigua.

Only 36 overs were possible following heavy overnight rain and the hosts batted confidently after resuming on 125 for three.

Ramnaresh Sarwan was the only batsman out, caught at slip off MacGill for 65. The rain continued into the morning session and left the outfield soggy. Despite the return of good weather at lunch, no play was possible until after tea.
