England all-rounder Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the upcoming World Twenty20 after fracturing his hand, the England and Wales Cricket Board said today.
Stokes, will miss this month's tournament in Bangladesh after punching a locker during last night's T20 game with the West Indies.
The 22-year-old lashed out in anger after being dismissed first ball by Krishmar Santokie, his second golden duck of the tour in which he has managed only 13 runs in five games.
"I am really disappointed to be missing out on going to a World T20 with England - it was a huge error in judgement following a frustrating tour for me and I deeply regret my behaviour," Stokes said in an ECB statement.
"I would like to wish the team all the very best in Bangladesh."
Chris Woakes has been added to the 15-man squad for the tournament, replacing Stokes.
The incident marks the nadir of an unhappy few weeks for Stokes whose recent loss of form has been a big disappointment after his exciting emergence in England's otherwise dismal Ashes tour.
The Durham all-rounder scored England's only hundred of the series, with 120 in Perth, and scoring 70 and taking 4-39 in the fourth ODI, England's only win over Australia in the whole tour.
He joins Joe Root on England's casualty list from their tour of the Caribbean.
