County Championship round-up: Top-notch Notts back in vogue
An accomplished batting display by the Australian Adam Voges, ably supported by Ali Brown, helped to take Nottinghamshire to the top of Division One after a comfortable six-wicket win over Somerset at Trent Bridge.
The match was nicely poised at the start of the day, with Nottinghamshire needing 149 to win with seven wickets remaining on a ground not noted for high scoring. Charl Willoughby made an early breakthrough by dismissing Samit Patel for 35 but Voges (73 not out) and Brown (63no) followed up their first-innings stand of 119 with an unbeaten partnership of 124 to end Somerset's interest.
In Division Two, Gloucestershire recorded their first Championship win at Bristol since May 2006 as they saw off Leicestershire by 10 wickets to go top. Jon Lewis took four for 39 to leave Gloucestershire needing only 72 runs to win and openers Kadeer Ali (38no) and Will Porterfield (32no) knocked those off with a minimum of fuss. James Tredwell's career-best eight for 66 sparked Glamorgan's collapse as Kent earned a dramatic 204-run win at Canterbury.
An unbeaten 76 by Rob White, including a match-winning six, wrapped up an eight-wicket win for Northamptonshire against Essex. Shaun Udal's six for 74 looked to have knocked the stuffing out of Surrey at The Oval, but Murtaza Hussain and Chris Schofield each took four wickets to force the draw against Middlesex.
