Batsman of the Day
When will Mark Stoneman, the left-hander who opens for Durham, be mentioned in the same breath as Sam Robson as a potential opening partner to Alastair Cook in the England Test side?
Stoneman registered his 10th first-class century for Durham against Middlesex, improving his career best for the second time this season in making 187. He was dropped three times -- most expensively at first slip off Tim Murtagh when he was on only seven -- but he demonstrated the quality of his stroke-making in between, sharing a stand of 274 for the second wicket with century-maker Scott Borthwick, who finished the day on a career-best 164 not out.
Bowler of the Day
Sussex turned to 21-year-old Matt Hobden to stand in for Chris Jordan against Nottinghamshire at Hove and were rewarded when the strongly built fast bowler dismissed former Australian Test batsman Phil Jaques in the third over of his opening spell and returned to add the scalp of England's James Taylor in his third spell.
On a day when Moeen Ali, increasingly a potential spin bowling option for England's Test, was making a hundred for Worcestershire, Monty Panesar found himself on the sidelines after the latest in a series of disciplinary incidents, dropped by Essex against Glamorgan for failing to attend a team meeting.Reuse content
